I’m a big believer in New Year’s resolutions. This may sound cliche and absurd to you, but I do. I’m also goal oriented and motivated. You should be to. This is the time of year you need to think about what it is you want out of the new year. Not turning over a new leaf and changing your entire existence. Or maybe it is…
Make micro goals first. What do you want to get done in the first 90 days? The second 90? Break it up into quarters. It’s much simpler to manage because then you can break it down by weeks. Let these next 6 weeks be about YOU! What do you want for you and how are you going to get there? What’s the plan? Make one! Don’t stress over holiday overindulging and such. That’s a waste of your precious energy. And trust me, your loved ones don’t want you being a salty bitch during the holidays either (it’s the season of sugar, am I right?).
Wake up early. Just do it! You can thank me later. Go to bed earlier and it will suck less. Now when you get up, think. Your brain is on fire right now and it is a perfect time to make your new year’s plans with the morning’s clarity and quiet before kids and family and work bombard you with their demands. This is your time. Make the most of it. Workout, make lists, journal, blog, run, do yoga, get the chores knocked out. Do whatever it takes to make you feel productive while also making your goals reality. Don’t drink any booze for the first 30 days either. You’ll be blown away by how good you feel and SLEEP!
Wanna lose weight? Start a small business? Get a new job? Move to a new city? Go back to school? Start a family? Buy a house? Travel the world? AWESOME! Fucking do it! But make a plan first. Work smarter not harder. Do some research on the subject. Explore all your avenues. Take notes! Look at ALL the pros and cons. ALL of them. Find a mentor. Contact them! Do your planning in these dark, quiet hours. You can sleep when you’re successful (you thought I was gonna say dead, didn’t you? Well that’s stupid! Everyone needs sleep. It’s important but when you’re driven and want to be a doer instead of just a dreamer you know sleep can be minimal. It’s a temporary sacrifice and it will be worth it if you’re diligent.)
The dark…..ah the dark. This is the season of darkness and you need to find the glory in that. See no one gets credit for what they do in the dark. The world only wants to see what you bring to the light. So use this time wisely. Work long and hard on you and what you want to accomplish. You get a fresh start at a new set of 365 days. Don’t fucking waste it!
